Invisalign® Q & A
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a teeth straightening system that uses specially designed clear aligners to gently and effectively move your teeth into a straighter position. The aligners are custom molded to fit your teeth perfectly and snugly, so no one knows you're wearing them.
Can Invisalign straighten my teeth?
Invisalign can straighten almost any misalignment in your teeth, including:
- Overcrowding
- Gapped teeth
- Overbite or underbite
- Open bite or cross bite
- Misaligned or crooked teeth
As an official Invisalign provider, the team at Lakeview Family Dental can evaluate your teeth and see if the clear aligners work for you.
How does Invisalign work?
The revolutionary teeth straightening system uses a specially designed thermoplastic called SmartTrack® to move your teeth into position. During your initial consultation, the team takes pictures of your teeth and mouth and maps out a specific plan for the movement of your teeth, which is then used to create your customized aligners.
You wear each set of aligners for one to two weeks, or as recommended by the team at Lakeview Family Dental, to move your teeth into position.
In addition to the aligners, the Invisalign system also uses SmartForce® tooth-colored attachments that assist in the movement of individual teeth for a more perfect smile.
How long does Invisalign take to straighten my teeth?
Everyone is different, but most patients can have straighter teeth within 12 to 18 months. To stay on track, the team at Lakeview Family Dental recommends you wear your aligners no less than 20 to 22 hours a day. The team has you come in for checkups and adjustments every four to six weeks.
What are the benefits of Invisalign?
The benefits of Invisalign go beyond its discreet and fast movement of your teeth. Unlike braces, you don’t have any wires or brackets rubbing up against your gums, so there’s very little discomfort.
You can also remove your Invisalign aligners to eat, so there are no restrictions with your diet, or for special occasions. This also makes teeth cleaning a lot easier and reduces your risk of developing cavities.
