What happens during a root canal?

During the root canal, the team first numbs the area around the tooth that needs the root canal. This helps reduce pain and discomfort. Then, the dental team drills your tooth to gain access to and remove the infected pulp. The inside of the tooth is then shaped and cleaned with an antimicrobial solution.

After cleaning, the chamber is filled with a special dental material and covered with a temporary crown or filling.

After a few weeks, the team at Lakeview Family Dental welcomes you back to check your tooth to make sure the infection is gone and then place your permanent crown or filling.

What can I expect after the root canal?

In between visits, you need to take good care of your teeth by brushing at least twice a day and flossing once a day.
